To mark its 10th anniversary, Malaysia’s leading fashion festival, the Mercedes-Benz STYLO AsiaFashionFestival 2017 kicked off five nights of fashion entertainment in a stunning display of creativity and colour at its opening gala at Bangsar South’s KL Gateway Mall.
The night opened with “Fashion Oscars presents My Fair Lady or Gentlemen”, featuring glamourous evening gowns, party dresses and dapper suits from Malaysian and International fashion designers and their muses. The show premiered with a range of creatively quirky bags depicting the grace and beauty of migratory birds by Illiza Ho, a Malaysia-based Taiwanese designer and protégé of world-renowned shoe couturier, Professor Datuk (Dr) Jimmy Choo OBE. This was quickly followed by a presentation of eight high street “My Fair Lady Goes to Malaysia” looks in black, navy blue, maroon and brown by Nawre.
The MBSTYLOAFF 2017 entered its second day at KL Gateway Mall with a stylish 5-designer showcase presented by Johnson & Johnson’s Neutrogena®. Themed, “Happy Skin”, the event showcased youthful, bright and colourful designs from select up-and-coming Malaysian fashion creators like Shadow C., weihaoyong, TUHFAH and a specially designed Neutrogena® collection by emerging young designers, Hazzer Wan Lee and Kittie Yiyi.
MBSTYLOAFF 2017’s third day continued at KL Gateway Mall with a vampire-inspired, gothic-themed international designers showcase, “STYLO, The Fashion Slayer”. The night began with a show by Paris-based designer, SERO with a collection incorporating the Zeitgeist – the unique spirit of the current era, into garments to draw a self-portrait of our time.
On its fourth day at KL Gateway Mall, MBSTYLOAFF 2017’s commenced with a classy men’s night themed, “The Godfather & the gentlemen we love” showcasing dapper suits and the coolest looks from established Malaysian and International designers. The fashion show began with vintage cars and twelve luxuriously styled looks for men by Malaysian designer, Bon Zainal featuring printed jackets, vests and floral shirts underscoring the new age Gentlemen with Style.
MBSTYLOAFF 2017’s culminated on the night of May 6th at Bangsar South’s KL Gateway Mall with the Scarlet Masquerade Ball – “Beauty & the Beast” and an awards night. The night’s fashion entertainment commenced with JO DISAYA showing a collection dominated by earthy tones and inspired by the 1970s vintage era. Rebellion and radicalism was the central theme, evident in the accessory detailing and fabrication. Bill Keith came on shortly after, with “50 shades of RED”, a collection based on a celebration of power and glamour!
Following that, the Mercedes-Benz STYLO AsiaFashionFestival gala honoured the most distinctive individuals in their respective fields of expertise through various fashion award categories.
Dato’ Nancy Yeoh, President & CEO of STYLO International and Chairman of MBSTYLOAFF said, “On behalf of STYLO, we are pleased to present our 10th anniversary edition showcasing the best of Asian and Malaysian fashion. STYLO began as a lifestyle fringe event in support of the Malaysian F1 Grand Prix 10 years ago, and I’m proud to say that it has gone on to become one of the most visible and talked-about fashion events in the region.”
