Newens Tea House High Tea Set February: Spring in China Tea

Newens Tea House

February’s Spring in China Tea

In conjunction with the Lunar New Year in February, Newens introduces Spring in China Tea.

The most interesting set in my opinion, there is so much here to see, touch and taste! And because the portion sizes here are small, I get to taste each delicious, dainty offering without filling myself too much. Also, definitely an interesting Chinese twist from the usual high tea options around KL.

February’s Spring in China Tea

Cascading down the three-tiered cake stand are flavourful pastries and oriental specialities such as the Shanghainese Sizzling Chicken Dumplings, Osmanthus Flower Jelly with Water Chestnuts, Steamed Layer Cake with Custard Cream and Salted Egg Yolk, Baked Crispy Chicken Puffs, Baked Egg Tarts, Pineapple Tarts and Fruit Cake. This is complemented with free-flow of Pai Mu Tan tea, also known as white peony which is a sweet, mild Chinese tea made from unopened tea buds.

Newens Tea House

You simply must try the Osmanthus Flower Jelly with Water Chestnuts. Uncomplicated in nature but when taken into your mouth emanates a delightful burst of chestnut flavour, sure to impress. The steamed layer cake with Custard Cream and Salted Egg Yolk is another win here. Feel the layers of flavour tango harmoniously in your mouth as you take each bite, much like a delightful expedition to the culinary caves of Shanghai.

Newens Tea House High Tea Set March: Japanese-Inspired Tea

March’s Japanese-Inspired Tea

To commemorate the season of cherry blossom in Japan, Newens will be serving a Japanese-inspired tea for the month of March.

Tea connoisseurs can relish their cravings with the Cherry Blossom Afternoon Tea which features delicious Sakura-Themed Mini Cakes, California Hand Rolls, Salmon Sashimi, Makimono Tamago – Omelettes in a Roll, Makimono Kani – Crabmeat in a Roll and Pralines. This afternoon tea experience comes paired with free-flow of the aromatic Wild Cherry Tea.

The highlight here is the Sakura-Themed Mini Cakes. Mesmerizing flavours will stun you when you take a bite into this delicate dessert and feel the Sakura flavour explode inside your mouth. A pleasant and sweet affair indeed.

March’s Japanese-Inspired Tea

The Salmon Sashimi, Makimono Tamago and California Hand Rolls take this tea set in a whole different angle, infusing Japanese culture into the entire dining experience. Equally as exquisite as it’s January and February sisters, if you’re a fan of Japanese cuisine, this is one high tea set that you’ve really gotta try.

Not exactly my favourite set, but it is definitely an interesting take from the traditional high tea setting we’re all too familiar with.
